Some couples have "our song," we have "our war"

Tiger loves to talk about history and wars. I do not. I'm not sure what I prefer to talk about the least: history, war or sports. I did very well in AP History circa 1999 and have not been interested since.

Snuggled in bed the other day, Tiger gets out his huge world atlas so we can talk about my travels. I point out places I've been and tell him stories. He mentions,

"In 17.. blah blah blah, the so-and-so's came down from over here and conquered over there and that's why so-and-so's and so-and-so's live together."

I can't even quote him correctly because I zoned out immediately. How do I get this conversation back on track? Without thinking about it, I start playing with my nipples. Tiger exclaims,

"What are you doing? I mention pina coladas and you start playing with your nipples?"

We were talking about pina coladas?! I can't believe I missed it.

It's after 1AM. I'm chatting with a regular at my bar and trying to get him to leave. We walk together toward the door. He tells me,

"It's so nice to have time to read for pleasure."

"What are you reading?"

"A book about the Thirty Years War."

"You'll have to tell me how it ends."

I mention to Tiger,

"I was talking to a regular about the Thirty Years War."

Tiger can't contain his excitement,

"You want to talk about the Thirty Years War?"

"Absolutely not."

Tiger forwards me a link for a film,

"The best movie ever made about the Thirty Years War."

I don't even know what war this is, but my disinterest still seems to be overwhelming my slight curiosity. I forward the link to my regular.  My regular tells me,

"I just bought that movie your boyfriend recommended."

Home alone, without any wars on my mind, I start googling different relationship questions I have. I stumble upon a comment thread and one user recommends a novel, The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

I get it and I start devouring it. I'm really enjoying it until two-thirds of the way through this pops up,

"Human life occurs only once ... Their defiance led to the Thirty Years War."
